You may now think, "what the hell are mondegreens?". It's a relatively new term used to describe misheard lyrics. So, I thought it would be fun to see if any of us have ever misheard a DM lyric, no matter how confusing. ^_^

Some that I had:
John the Revelator:
"Let him tell his stupid lie" instead of "let him tell his book of lies"
"Bye and bye" instead of "by and by"
Wrong:
"The wrong mix in the wrong jeans" instead of "the wrong mix in the wrong genes"
Hole to Feed:
"What you'll have / is another whole two feet" instead of "What you'll have / is another hole to feed"
Home:
"A cage of the heaviest grass ever made" instead of "a cage or the heaviest cross ever made"
Policy of Truth:
"For notwithstanding the advise" instead of "for not listening to advice"
Master and Servant:
"we get all about the quality" instead of "forget all about equality"
Strangelove:
"Strange eyes and strange loves" instead of "strange highs and strange lows"

Some written on the web by other people:
Enjoy the Silence:
"Pleasures reaming / soldiers burping" instead of "pleasures remain / so does the pain"
Fragile Tension:
"There's something mystical in our jeans / so simplistic it kicks and screams" instead of "There's something mystical in our genes / so simplistic it kicks and screams"
Perfect:
"There are never any cornflakes" instead of "there are never any conflicts"
Personal Jesus:
"Your own...personal...Jesus / someone to feel you breasts" instead of "Your own...personal...Jesus / someone to hear your prayers"

And yes, I'm typing this at 2 o'clock in the morning.
I need to sleep.

When I was 8 years old I remember listening to Home a lot, because it was on some 1997 mixtape! :D And of course I heard most of the lyrics wrong, my English wasn't very good x)

If I remember some of them I'll post 'em.

Here we go! I was laughing so hard until now, some of them don't make any sense! (especially the last verse :D)

Depeche Mode - Home (Tatiana version)

It is a son
from the road Saima (?) tan
where I bow
to the ground
by the lawn in the sound
seven pounds from breathing
and is impaling (??) me down

Here is a page
from the En Tiest (???) age
a cage of the head eats grass ever lain

And I thank you
for bringing me here
for showing me home
for singing these tee-s (:o)
finally I've found
that I below 'him'

The heat and the sick leaves
sweet smell and sheets
lacling (???) to the backs of my niece
and my feed
I'm drowning in time
to a dexter (..) being

And I thank you
for bringing me here
for showing me home
for singing these tee-s
finally I've found
that I below 'him'

Feels like home
I should have known
from my first friends

Celine Dion little friend (oh my... god)
I call Mike
pretend that I'll make a lense
for next time
a friend with a glorious sin of the line

Hahaha I had to laugh so hard at that! At first I actually read only your last post, without reading your previous post about how you misheard these lyrics when you were 8. So I actually thought that you thought that the lyrics were like this until very recently! Yeah the Celine Dion part was hilarious, plus "that I below him"... Hahahaha! :)

I just remembered another one, from Barrel of a Gun:

"... That feeds the mark of Caine right here inside..."

I was not familiar with the Bible story of Cain and Abel, so I figured that Martin had made a reference to Sir Michael Caine, that famous actor! WTF?! Why the hell did I think that? What would it even mean?!

LOL
